On the afternoon of April 20, 2023, at 4:00 p.m., Professor Zhang Weilei from Shanghai University of International Business and Economics gave a wonderful academic lecture for faculty and students in the Lecture Hall of the Second Classroom. The lecture was chaired by Dean Cao Ruonan, and nearly 150 faculty and students attended the lecture.
Dean Cao Ruonan first warmly welcomed and sincerely thanked Professor Zhang Weilei for taking the time to give an academic lecture to our faculty and students. She briefly introduced Professor Zhang Weilei’s personal background and academic achievements. Subsequently, Professor Zhang Weilei gave an academic lecture titled Strategies and Paths for the Transformation of Foreign Language Teachers from the Perspective of Area Studies. The lecture focused on five aspects: area studies, its basic research, advantages of foreign languages, interdisciplinary theories and methods, and case analysis. Professor Zhang elaborated on the basic concepts and characteristics of area studies, as well as the interdisciplinary implementation paths and methods of area studies from different perspectives such as linguistics and literature. He advocated for foreign language teachers to broaden their academic horizons and development paths by integrating different research directions within the discipline or across multiple disciplines.
After the lecture, Dean Cao Ruonan delivered concluding remarks, and highly praised the lecture. The faculty members present also interacted warmly with Professor Zhang Weilei and took a group photo together.
