Professor Rüdiger Lohlker from the University of Vienna in Austria was invited to deliver a distinguished lecture at our Foreign Language School at 2:30 p.m. on November 1, 2023, as part of the 21st of the "Distinguished Lecture Series." The lecture, titled " Area Studies from Global and Regional Perspectives," was attended by over 150 faculty and students of the entire school. Professor Cao Ruonan, the dean of the Foreign Language School, chaired the event.
Dean Cao first delivered a warm welcome speech, introducing Professor Rüdiger Lohlker's research interests and academic achievements. Subsequently, Professor Lohlker examined the concept of globalization and its historical development, with a particular focus on the interconnection and interdependence among countries in terms of economy, society and culture. Professor Lohlker conducted case studies from both global and regional perspectives, emphasizing the crucial importance of integrating regional studies with globalization research.
During the interactive session, Professor Lohlker patiently answered questions raised by faculty and students, clarifying common misconceptions and uncertainties in the field of country and area studies. The lecture not only broadened the academic horizons of faculty and students, but also strengthened collaboration with renowned international scholars. Professor Lohlker's insightful presentation and accessible interpretations provided attendees with a more comprehensive understanding of country and area studies. The lecture was a complete success, laying a solid foundation for further promoting academic exchange and interdisciplinary integration across the entire school.
