Recently, the national contest of EU-China Youth Debate Tournament in 2011 began in Beijing and 60-plus delegations from colleges and universities all over the country have attended the contest. Wang Nina and Gao Tian from our school won the third prize after round-robin and elimination matches. And Gao Tian also won the prize of Best Debater. In this September, they will attend the international competition with other 16 teams.
As one of the important activity in EU-China Youth Communication Year, the Debate Tournament aimed at increasing the understanding and friendship between EU-China youth, encouraging youth to concern and support the development of EU-China relationship, and promoting and deepening the partnership between China and Europe. This Debate Tournament is the first the contest living on TV and supported by the government.
It is reported that EU-China Youth Communication Year was advocated jointly by premier Wen Jiaobao and Jose Manual Barroso. It is the first theme year since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and EU 35 years ago and a large scale youth communication activity.
